21-Year-Old Labourer Earning Just Rs 300 A Day Cracks NEET

A 21-year-old student from West Bengal, Sarfaraz, has overcome incredible challenges to achieve an impressive score of 677 out of 720 in the NEET 2024 exam. Despite living in financial hardship, he has become a source of inspiration for his village. For the past two years, Sarfaraz has been working as a laborer, lifting 400 bricks daily from 6 am to 2 pm, to support his family and fund his education. His journey has not been easy, as he faced ridicule for balancing work with studies.

Sarfaraz's family, residing in a house built under the PM Awas Yojana, has stood by him through thick and thin. His mother recalled a particularly difficult time when their house lacked a roof. She would stay awake all night to ensure her son stayed warm, highlighting the sacrifices made to help him pursue his goals.

In 2022, Sarfaraz faced a major setback when an accident prevented him from attending an NDA interview, a long-held dream since his 10th-grade years. Financial difficulties had already delayed his progress, and he recalled borrowing a phone from a teacher to watch preparation videos. Though he cleared the first phase of the exam, the accident stopped him from advancing to the next stage.

During the pandemic, Sarfaraz used government assistance to buy a phone, which became instrumental in his NEET preparation. He relied on YouTube videos, especially those by Alakh Pandey, and later enrolled in a Physics Wallah course, taking advantage of discounts. This decision turned out to be pivotal in his success.

Although he initially secured admission to a dental college, financial constraints and the lack of hostel facilities forced him to quit. Undeterred, Sarfaraz focused on his goal and eventually succeeded in clearing NEET 2024, earning a seat at Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College in Kolkata.

Sarfaraz’s perseverance and determination have turned his struggles into a story of hope and achievement, inspiring countless others in similar circumstances.
